Epic Games email system

Bringing the new Epic Games to users’ inbox

An important user experience touch point in line with the new design system through flexible email templates.

Touchpoints consistency

Recognizing emails as a vital touchpoint for the Epic Games Store, we reimagined the template system to align with the new design language, ensuring users experienced consistent branding and interaction patterns at every stage of their journey.

Scope & opportunities for improvement

The first approach was to audit types, scenarios and identify possible opportunities to improve, since we were redesigning all of them.

Types of emails: triggered Epic Games Store notifications, sales + special initiatives, recurrent newsletter, and informative emails.

Main issues identified: discrepancies between desktop and mobile/light and dark themes, and font rendering for some email clients.

Mobile and desktop screens displaying a digital rewards balance from Epic Games, showing $5.27 granted and $16.39 new rewards balance, with options to visit the Epic Games store and rewards usage instructions.

The first use case - design priority

The new Epic Games Rewards program was about to be launched, so emails with rewards information, receipts, and updates were needed. So we used the first cases to define and stress-test the overall design system for e-mails.

Light and dark mode scenarios, headers that accommodate image assets and personalized + localized text, and a flexible card system, recalling Epic Games Store, were implemented.

Email notification from Epic Games informing a user named Kendra that her rewards are ready to be redeemed, showing rewards balances, and instructions on how to use rewards, displayed on both desktop and mobile screens.

Connected content and design

Existing published content and design components from the Epic Games Store were considered, integrated, and repurposed.

Game details, blog posts, and promotional material can populate the new email system.
